I belong to a group called view from my window. In the group people from all over the world share views from their window. Some views are spectacular, some are ordinary, but all are unique. This morning as I was looking at the pictures, I thought this is one of the realist things on social media. The way we see the world. Just like the visional views we are all unique. We have core values, and we see the world through our experiences.
I once attempted to teach a group of adults who were illiterate (meaning they could not read or write). The one thing that I will always remember from that training class, was the instructor telling us that we cannot assume that because someone cannot read and write that are less than us. Everyone has a story, a life experience, a skill, and gifts. When we downsize that, criticize that, or turn our heads to that, we are doing each other a big disservice. Without walking in another man or women’s shoes we are incapable of judgement.
Some of us what to wear rose colored glasses, some do not want to be fenced in, some are fighters, and some are dreamers, some may be a combination of them all. No matter who we are, there are differences between us. When we share our feeling we may find that our differences may be misunderstood, found disgusting, or down right appalling to others. Opening up is a risk, and sometimes one I personally am not willing to take. I have people I have known for years that I have shut down, and shut out of my life. Is that right or is that wrong I do not know but the differences between us became so great I did not want to deal with them. Out of site out of mind as the old saying goes.
In the good old days, there may have been blow ups around the kitchen table, or while having a discussion at a social function but those were not as widespread as they are today. The media told us what we needed to hear. We could listen to radio, and TV, read, and take college classes but real information and misinformation was harder to come by.
Today we have the world wide web and I wonder how much better off we are. Last night as Dave and I watched a couple pod casts and discussed our country, and the social climate, I had to wonder is ignorance really bliss? Do we really want, or need to know when we are being screwed, cheated, or lied to? Are we being screwed, cheated, and lied to? Are we wrong to push for answers? Is expressing our voice selfish and intolerant? Is violence ever OK? Is one life more important then the next? Do two wrongs make a right? Do you set down and shut up, or do you fight for what you believe in? It is mind boggling.
I did not make a News Years Resolution, but I am going to make one now. To the best of my ability, I am going to let faith guide me, and in times of distress I am turning to God. He knows the beginning and the end, and He left His word to guide us. I know that to many that can be debatable, but not to me. It is the one solid foundation I have in these troubled times and I will not let it be taken from me.
Unrest is taking a toll on all of us. I pray that each of you find your piece, and that things can began to settled down a little.
