Wednesday, December 09,2020 A day I will not soon forget.

What a day, what a day, what a day. I knew when I woke up this morning the day was going to be hurried and stressful. I had to serve 2 three-day eviction notices in Burl. Dave needed me to find a dry cleaner that could have pants and shirt pressed by this evening, and I had a zoom meeting for bible study that I needed to be on at the same time. I was getting it all worked out until texts message started coming in, then Dave began calling, hanging up and calling again. That was when I realized something had to be going on, so I dropped the Zoom call and took his.

The minute I heard his voice I knew it was not going to be good. The first words out of his month was have you talked to Shawna. Then he told me Hunters school was locked down and he was at school. I was close by the school so I headed in that direction. Randal, Mom and Bub were already at the subway down the road from the school. Driving past the school there were police at every entrance, several in front of the school and one at the entrance of each surrounding street. Randal had his scanner but no information was being released. About 45 minutes into it we were told they were going to start releasing the students that had a ride. I was parked in teachers parking with other parents waiting for students to be released, nothing happened. Officers were suiting up, shields were being taken from their cars, and officers were being placed on the roof throughout the building. We were now into this a couple hours when one of the parents called me to her car to show me a text her daughter had sent her. It was a snap chat post that had been released of a student with a gun, the heading read “Last day of Twin Falls High School.”

We watched as officers moved in and out of the building, State Police arrived and students were left on lockdown. As emotions rose up and down I could not help thinking, thank you God for the Police. How would you ever handle something like this without them.

Finally a police officer that was part of the swat team came out and told us the suspect had been apprehended and they were going to start releasing students. Normally Hunter is the last one out, but to my surprise this time he was the first one. Seeing him at that point and time will be remembered as one of my happier moments in life.

Life is short and full of unexpected moments. I would have never pictured that my day would have ended up like this. I pray that the young man that caused all this Chaos gets the help he needs. I pray that anyone that feels this depressed, or hopeless finds the courage they need to get the help they deserve. This was a bad situation that could have went in many different directions. I could not help but think of the parents that have been though the worse case scenario in these types of situations, and my heart goes out to them. I was proud of my boy he remained calm, cool, and level headed.
